TV Tuesday: Indians, Serial Killers, Burgers, and Lost In Translation

Alright. So. I'm almost afraid to create this post because yesterday Blogger started doing some very strange things. I have been unable to update, edit, and preview my last post. I've noted this problem on the forum here, but to no avail. If anyone out there can help, please do!

Now on to the fun stuff! I was so happy to find out that in fact Hell On Wheels hadn't ended yet (btw, know now that I usually don't get to my tv shows until 1-2 days after they air)! Then I was sad again when I learned that they had split the last episode up into two parts. The one I originally thought was the finale was the first part, so today it technically ended for me. But OMG, the finale was amazing! I was so pissed that Bohannon didn't get to hang Gundersen from the railroad bridge. What a let down. The fight scene was really well done, despite the fact that they obviously lacked the funds they needed to do such a large scale battle. I'm such a sucker for Cowboy's and Indians! I was really disturbed and surprised that Lily died. She was such a great character and I was looking forward to her role in future seasons. And can I just say that Common plays Ferguson incredibly well? Most rapper's can't act, but he is excellent in his role. It was sad that Toole committed suicide. He was a pretty racist guy, but a good character, nonetheless. At least his death means that Ferguson and Eva can be together with their baby... although the house Ferguson worked so hard to build for them burnt to the ground. So much sorrow in the final episode! I hope that Lily's death (and in general the way the finale ended) doesn't mean that it's not getting renewed for a third season. After all, ratings did increase by 1.5 million viewers from the start of season 1 to the end of season 2. I wish people appreciated Western's more. Especially Firefly, a sci-fi Western, but western nonetheless. Anyway, that's a discussion for another time!

Ever notice how the next episode preview at the end of shows during the credits pretty much tell you exactly what's going to happen in the next episode? I really would have liked the second episode of Dexter more, had they not revealed to me that a) Deb was not going to arrest Dexter, and that B) he was going to move in with her for "serial killer's rehab." At least all the drama with Louis was left out. That guy is crazy for messing with Dexter. Even after Dexter threatened him! I assumed that was going to be the end of the story line with him and was kind of sad because it seemed like an awesome arc to follow, but when he kept coming around I got excited again!

The second episode of Bob's Burgers, in my opinion, was so much funnier (if only slightly, because I love the subject matter of the first) than the first! Not to mention it was Halloween themed, which I love (October is the best month of the year!). I absolutely love the kids in the show. Even though they do the craziest things, I can easily look back in my own childhood and remember doing equally crazy stuff! However, I do wish that when I was as young as Louise, I had the same self-awareness and confidence she does! Or that at least I knew someone as cool as she is!

I haven't watched Homeland or Boardwalk Empire yet and I'm not really interested in commenting on any other shows I watch at the moment.

I'm currently watching Lost In Translation and just had to include it in my post although technically it's a movie. I have seen this movie about 4 times now, and I love it just as much as the first. Having traveled to Japan twice, I feel a deep sense of connection with both protagonists, but especially Charlotte (of course). Sofia Coppola does an amazing job of directing. I feel like she must be super detail-oriented because everyone's mannerism's and facial expressions are perfect. Bill Murray is sooooo hilarious in it. His character is so sarcastic and dry. I really hope I get to go back to Japan someday. There's just something about the culture that's irresistible to me.

On a completely unrelated note, I've decided that Thursday's are going to be devoted to Travel, which now only leaves Monday and Wednesday open. So the official schedule as of right now is TV Tuesday's, Travel Thursday's, and Fourth Estate Friday's.

Currently I'm sitting in bed with a very sore throat and slight fever. I guess I've caught the cold somehow. Nothing seems to soothe it... not aspirin/salt gargles, not hot tea with honey, not cold water. It's also affecting my sleep which sucks because I have another 5 am shift tomorrow at the pool. I hope I'm well enough to be a good guest for my party this weekend.

Talk soon!

A very random post

So. It is was 7:15 am. I arrived at work this morning at 5 having gotten a mere 2 hours of sleep. I'm here until 1 pm. I wish it wasn't so impossible to take a nap.

I've had a lot on my mind concerning some upcoming projects I want to do. I have roughly 9 days to put together a 20 page comic at which point i'll mail it to my brother and he will try and get it to a nice contact he has. I'm hoping that works out! I also have a kickstarter project in the works that I hope to finish asap. It will be a little difficult while also trying to pull off this comic, but I think if I get the project ready and then wait to do the video until the end of the month that would be best. I'm also trying to put together 3 possible businesses at the moment. Details to follow when the plans are better fleshed out.

So how about tv right now? Dexter and Homeland are back. I was very impressed with the starts of both seasons. Both kept me on the edge of my seat. One of my favorite shows ended, Hell on Wheels. I don't know anyone else who watches the show, which is terrible. The writing is outstanding. The episode where Bohanon had to kill the Doc. That brought a tear to my eye. As for Boardwalk Empire... Luciano (think that's his name) really scares me! He is a psychopath! Bob's Burgers is back! Yaaay! Last season of 30 Rock. Wasn't really impressed win the first episode, however. Anyone watching Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee on his website? I have to say I love it. It's hilarious. My favorites are the ones that feature Ricky Gervais, Larry David, and Mel Brooks.

Back in reality, everyone's all ramped up about the debate. Slinging all the hate around. Obama should have attacked Romney more. That's all I'm going to say. The Rumble between John Stewart and Bill O'Reilly, in my opinion, got more accomplished than the debate. O'Reilly didn't slam us with as many lies as Romney, although his "Bush is gone" spill was quite annoying, and Stewart was on the attack making sure to point out not only the hypocrisy in his opponent, but in others that inhabit "Bullshit Mountain" as well.

A friend of mine, Kyle, (who's blog you can find here) suggested to me making a schedule for my blog so it's easier to keep up with. I really liked his idea a lot and I've already started brainstorming it a bit. So far I have TV Tuesday's and Fourth Estate Friday's. This will give me a nice excuse to keep up with the blog, as I'm incredibly good at avoiding it.

Talk soon!

PS: I promise I'll make my blog visually appealing soon!

Keeping Up and Such

Well, after having found out that I can only post to this page and not other pages I've created, I became a little discouraged with blogging. I wanted to create a blog format similar to one of my favorite blogs, iheartchaos.com. They post all of their content to a main page but tag it so that it will list on their other pages. So, if something is tagged video, it will be listed on the video page so that it's easier to find and you don't have to sort through all of the other posts. So i'll be getting rid of the other pages shortly.
Anywho, this is my return. I'm writing this from my phone, which is rather convenient.
I've been doing a lot of writing and researching for my first novel this past week. I'm actually happy with what I've written so far which is a pleasant surprise.
I've also been working on putting together a kickstarter for a travel show I want to do about traveling on a budget. While in Japan, my husband and I had a strict budget, but we managed to see everything we wanted to. What fascinates me about traveling are the non-touristy locales where you really get to learn about the culture and people of the country or city you're in. I also hope to show that side of the place I visit. I have a pretty unique idea about how to put this together and I hope people donate to the cause because I would love nothing more than to travel and write.
On politics... everyone knows what today is without me having to say it. The only thing I'm going to say is that several years later we're still going. While I disagree (you'll find out more later) with a lot of what happens in the political arena, I'm always proud of America and its citizens. We've overcome tremendous hardships in our short history and we will continue to do so in the future.
Talk to you soon. :)

Hello internet and everyone therein! I'm Jess, aka Birdzilla, and I suppose this is my first post. Birdzilla comes from my most common gaming tag. I've had other blogs before, but none I stuck with and continually posted on. I plan to make that change with this blog.

I hope to successfully cover several topics including travel, politics, tv, film, health/fitness, video games, comics, crafting/diy, pretty much all of the stuff I'm interested in in life, although it might not all appear at once.

As for me, I'm a 22 year old living in the south (for now). I've lived all over and prefer the west coast. I'm everything but your average 22 year old female. I want to travel. I play video games on a regular basis. I read comics. I want to be a writer and an artist, perhaps a graphic novelist. Trying to do several things while working two part-time jobs.

I hope I gain a large readership and post things that you all can enjoy. It's my wish  to inform and connect people.

PS: Eventually I will be completely re-doing the blog to have a more personal theme. My degree is in graphic design, so there aren't any excuses!
